A Fluffy Holiday

Japan is famous for sushi, temples, and bullet trains. But just off the coast of Honshu, there's a place that cat lovers (and only cat lovers) will truly appreciate.

Last month, I finally made my way to Toshirojima – better known as Cat Island. After a short ferry ride, I was greeted by about a dozen furry locals who clearly run the place. And here's the bizarre truth: there are less than 100 human residents on the entire island, but over 100 cats. Yes, you read that correctly.

The cats roam absolutely everywhere – on the docks, outside the tiny shops, even sleeping in the middle of the road. The most incredible thing? They are not shy at all. One orange cat followed me for twenty minutes, demanding attention like a tiny, fluffy tour guide.

Here's a crucial tip: do not bring any food or treats. Locals believe these cats bring good luck, so they are well taken care of. Feeding them yourself is actually considered disrespectful.

Was it a terrifying adventure? Not at all. But it was definitely one of the most unbelievable places I have ever experienced – peaceful, strange, and surprisingly emotional.

Would you visit an island ruled by cats, or would the fur be too much for you?
